In recent years, the company has given a new impetus by starting its export activity. Since then, foreign sales have been the driving force behind the growth of the company, which is already present in other markets such as the European Union, Asia, Russia and Africa.
Famadessa was founded in 1970 from a small slaughterhouse located in Campanillas (Malaga, Spain). The gradual increase in production and sales led to the creation of a second slaughterhouse in 1997.

Federico Beltrán is a reference in the business world in southern Spain. In addition to building one of the country’s leading meat companies, he has also been president of the Malaga Football Club, councilman in the city council and director of the financial institution Unicaja.

A JOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY

Famadessa has based its success on an exhaustive control of production, since it uses its own resources to carry out all the links in the process: it manufactures feed, has fattening farms, slaughterhouse, dryer and distribution network.
With these means, it has become a supplier of maximum guarantee for distributors all over the world. It is committed to a philosophy focused on work, responsibility and continuous learning, and has a team of professionals capable of employing vision, vocation and common sense.
Since 2010, Famadessa has been present globally, becoming one of the main exporters in its sector. Around 58% of its sales are destined for foreign markets.

FROM SOUTHERN SPAIN TO THE WORLD

Although it is known as a slaughterhouse and manufacturer of pork products, Famadessa is also a business group comprising eight companies in the agri-food sector. With all this, it currently generates some 1,000 direct jobs. It has a fleet of more than 120 trucks throughout Europe and specific vehicles for the transport of livestock and animal feed.

Currently, Famadessa’s production capacity reaches 1,350,000 pig slaughterings per year. In its factory, 6,500 tons of sausages and more than 350,000 pieces of cured ham are produced each year.

In recent years, the company’s growth has been driven by the opening of new markets, especially in Asia and Eastern Europe, led by China and Russia respectively, until the closing of borders. However, from 2021 onwards, special activity will be maintained in the Philippines, Taiwan and Korea. Other locations that have been strengthened include South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico, Colombia and Congo. Exports now account for more than 58% of sales.

Aware that internationalization in the company brings a change in business awareness, expanding the vision “from Local to Global” and this in turn requires being at the forefront, from Famadessa are being undertaken internal processes of continuous improvement in R&D and Quality in recent years, in order to better position itself in these countries and expand to other nearby countries.

The result of all this is a turnover of 272 million euros in 2021, with a clear upward trend compared to recent years.

The company’s industrial complex consists of three plants for all its activities:

  • The first of these, located in the city of Malaga with a surface area of more than 10,000 square meters, carries out the activity of pig slaughterhouse and meat cutting room and warehouse .
  • Next to it there is another plant dedicated to the salting and drying of hams. It has an approximate area of 2,700 m2.
  • The third floor develops the manufacturing, packaging and distribution of meat products and meat preparations.

The group completes its presence with the facilities of Jamones Alameda, Carnes y Ganados Andalucía (Sierra de Yeguas), Almargeña de Integración, Agropecuaria Campanillas, Cárnicas Humilladero and Transportes Famadessa.

In addition, there are offices in Madrid, Almendralejo (Badajoz), Seville, Levante and Portugal.
